Smash Raises the Curtain

7 Feb

The anticipated new CTV show, Smash, aired last night and has been getting great reviews. I watched it, and I loved it. The drama and stress of putting together a Broadway show caught my attention and I was hooked by the first song. The idea of a Marilyn Monroe musical is brilliant, and the competition between Ivy and Karen makes it more interesting. There is past drama between Tom and Derek, and it has not been revealed. Julia is trying to mediate the tension between them, and Eileen is trying to rush everything together.

The cast is stunner, Debra Messing, Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Christian Borle and Anjelica Huston. I was a fan of them before this show began, so I was excited to see them together. I watched the show online again, and it was just as dazzling. I have a feeling that this show is going to last.

Michelle Being Marilyn

Michelle Williams performance in My Week with Marilyn was truely a showstopping performance. She mastered Marilyn’s voice, her image, her vunerability and her superstardom. Her Golden Globe win was well deserved and hopefully she will earn an Oscar nomination. The film was full of elegance, humor and heartbreak. The supporting cast was outstanding as well; Kenneth Branagh as Sir Laurence Olivier, Julia Ormond and Vivien Leigh, Emma Watson as Lucy, and of course Eddie Redmayne as Colin. Director Simon Curtis showed the real side of Marilyn Monroe, the side that no one back then wanted to see. Everyone wanted Marilyn Monroe, no one cared about Norma Jean anymore. The beauty that was Marilyn Monroe will live with us forever and her tradgic ending will be remebered.
